FastTrack Schedule is easy-to-use project management software than shines in the area of planning and tracking a project and reporting project goals. This program is perfect for program managers that are starting their very first project or those in the profession who have many years of experience under their belts. A getting started screen provides you with the jumpoff point for the program. You don’t have to search for certain features for the program anywhere else because they’re all located in this one dialog box.

When it comes to collaboration features, FastTrack Schedule’s offerings are a little sparse. Seeing as how communication is an integral part of the project management process, it’s troubling that they don’t have many features though. Don’t let that scare you away from this product though. What they lack in collaboration features, they make up for in resource and project management feature. Image colums make it possible to add pictures directly into column cells. With this feature, images automatically scale as thumbnails to match row heights and display as larger images when you hover over them. The bar styles and gradients have changed to help you make your reports look more dynamic than ever before.

For resource management features, the only two FastTrack doesn’t have are Timesheets and Check In/Check Out, which are good features in and of themselves, but their absence is okay. A good project management program isn’t going to become lackluster without these features. The rest of them make this program excellent.

In project management, FastTrack had more features than most of the programs we reviewed. If they had included automatic notifications with this version, that would’ve made the program even better. But, features like risk/benefit analyzer, automatic notifications and recurring tasks are good if you have them. As stated in the previous paragraph, the fact a program doesn’t have them affects their standing very little. You can also have an assortment of different work and base calendars, such as standard, 24 hour and night shift calendars, that can be defined per task.

In the interest of keeping total work constant, you can take advantage of the effort-driven scheduling feature, which allows you to automatically adjust task durations as resources are added, leaving the total work unchanged. Assignment contouring makes balancing your resources easier than it has ever been. You can set adjust someone’s work schedule using a number of different criterias to address must-meet deadlines and special cases. The Work Usage Inspector gives you the opportunity to see when someone is being overutilized long before it actually happens. The enhanced resource information form makes it possible for you to add more information about certian employees than ever before, which allows you to organize photos, contact information, rates and work schedules. Apply fixed duration to tasks that require a specific amount of time to complete. This will keep changes to the work or resourcess of the tasks out of the equation for determining duration.

FastTrack Schedule is very easy to use despite its rich set of features.

AEC Software offers a pretty solid FAQ section and Support Knowledgebase. If you have any questions that aren’t covered under one of these two sections, you can email or call them and receive a prompt, informative response from one of their qualified customer service professionals. Finding their phone number is difficult because it’s not listed under their Support section. If you click on the Company button at the top, and go down to Contact Us, you will find three phone numbers and a mailing address for AEC Software headquarters.

Summary:

FastTrack Schedule is solid project management software that won’t disappoint companies who already have a solid communication system in place. For others, they can consult the other products in this category that have a richer set of collaboration features. However, how many features they offer in the other categories more than make up for this shortcoming. You won’t be disappointed if you give FastTrack Schedule a shot.
